Toy Tuesday! Heelys

Updated: Jan 8

Toy Tuesday! Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday we showcase a toy that we are loving up! Today we want to tell you how much we love Heelys. Don’t know what Heelys are? We didn’t either until our son asked for “wheel shoes”. They are shoes with wheels built in so that they can be used like incognito roller skates. I was a little too old when they came out and missed how awesome they can shape a childhood. I thought they were a thing of the aughts and our little missed that boat, but nope, they are still everywhere if you just look.

Don't forget to wear a bike helmet - a rule that we have for all things with wheels (except for like...a walker). There is also a definite quality delineation between what is out there. I would recommend these ones.

Pros:

  1. The wheels are retractable so they are definitely shoes with wheels, and not just roller skates.

  2. They come in all sorts of styles, so you'll likely find something that your Picky Little will like

  3. Build core strength and balance in your child

  4. Fun to wear

Cons:

  1. Pulling the wheels in and out isn't super easy and may need a tool (so may not be able to do it "on the fly")

  2. They can get pretty pricey

Now that the weather is finally nice we often go out on walks after dinner and the wheel shoes gives our son an excuse to practice his balance and build core strength. I wanted to get him wrist guards or at least fingerless gloves (you’ll see why) but he refused them both. The helmet was non-negotiable, however, so at least we have that going for us. They look kinda fun. Who knows? Maybe for Father’s Day we’ll get the hubbs a pair also!
